The honest version: AwayWithYa doesn't have accounts, doesn't have a database of users, and doesn't sell anything about you. This page explains, plainly, what actually happens when you use the app — not a wall of legal padding. It's a straightforward description of how the app works today, and it'll be reviewed by a solicitor before AwayWithYa leaves pre-launch.

No account, no profile

There's nothing to sign up for. AwayWithYa doesn't ask for your name, email, or phone number, and doesn't store a profile of you anywhere.

What happens when you search or get directions

To turn a place name into a location, and a location into a route, your search text and the start/end points you choose are sent to the open-source services that do that work:

Search — place searches are sent to Photon, an open-source geocoder built on OpenStreetMap data.
Routing — your start and end coordinates are sent to the public OSRM routing service to calculate the route.
Map tiles — the map itself is drawn from OpenStreetMap data via CARTO's tile service, the standard way any Leaflet-based map loads its imagery.

These requests aren't logged or stored by AwayWithYa — they pass straight through to the open-source service that answers them, the same way a phone call passes through an exchange. We don't control those services' own server logs, but we don't send them anything about who you are, because we don't collect that in the first place.

Analytics

We use a self-hosted, privacy-respecting analytics tool (Umami) to see rough, anonymous numbers like how many people visited the site. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other sites, and doesn't identify you individually.

What we don't do

We don't sell or share your data — there isn't a store of "your data" to sell.
We don't run ads or ad-tracking on the app.
We don't require an account to use any part of the app.

Open source

AwayWithYa is built entirely on open, auditable infrastructure — Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, Photon, and OSRM. If you want to check exactly how something works, the code is the source of truth.
